TORONTO – Blue Jays manager John Gibbons is still waiting for his first win under Major League Baseballs new challenge system; the skipper is 0-3 in the regular season, 0-6 including Grapefruit League play. Still, hes a supporter. "I think in the long run it will be good," said Gibbons. Gibbons didnt challenge a play in Wednesday nights win over the Astros, which, upon further review, may have been overturned. Ryan Goins was picked off first base in the sixth inning but it appeared first baseman Marc Krauss glove swept the dirt and tagged Goins high on the shoulder after the runner had touched the bag. The Blue Jays didnt have access to all replay angles; the angles they had were inconclusive. Gibbons has previously expressed regret that the challenge system has sapped the intensity of manager/umpire arguments. Hes worried about the in-game delays and the effect on pace of play. Rather than just complaining, Gibbons proposes a solution. "Keep it the way it is but dont give the teams the benefit of being able to look at it behind the scenes," he said. "I think if, itd be like the old days, you could go out and argue if you think the guy missed it that bad you go out and argue. Of course theyre not going to look at it. This way, then they can say, Okay, you think I missed it that bad, check it out. I think what happens when you have the ability to look at it behind the scenes, you can go out there on every close play there is. "In a lot of ways youre guessing. I think that slows the game down. If youre that serious about a particular call and you think he missed it, roll the dice without the benefit of looking at it." Gibbons incorrectly challenged a call in the fifth inning of Thursday nights game against Houston when the replay system confirmed Melky Cabrera was out on a bang-bang play at first base. WAGNERS LONG DAY Neil Wagner threw two scoreless innings in Torontos 7-3 win over Houston on Wednesday night. It was the culmination of a long day of travel for Wagner, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo. Wagner was in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where the Bisons were getting ready to play the LeHigh Valley Ironpigs. He took an hour and a half taxi ride to the Philadelphia airport, flew to Toronto and arrived at the stadium 10 minutes before first pitch. "It was actually just kind of easy," said Wagner. "I just woke up, did my normal thing in the morning and then instead of going through the normal pre-game routine I was just travelling, got here and I was able to play a little catch." Wagner got his arm loose playing catch with left fielder Melky Cabrera at the start of each defensive inning. Casey Janssen and J.A. Happ are both expected to come off the disabled list sooner rather than later, which will create a logjam in the bullpen. Wagner is in his final option year, the reason he got sent down last month, and knows he could again fall victim to the business of the game. "Options are the one thing for free in this game that you dont want," said Wagner. "I cant control having them, I cant give them to other people so I have them and if I get optioned against at some point, so be it. Just keep doing what I do and hopefully at some point, be back." DELABAR RESTS Reliever Steve Delabar was in good humour one day after taking a line drive off the outside of his right leg, below the knee. The ball ricocheted to Edwin Encarnacion at first base, who stepped on the bag for the easy out. "That was the plan," said Delabar. "When I came out of the bullpen they said, if you get hit with a line drive make sure your leg is angled." Delabar is using the RICE treatment method with the bruising: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. While Delabar wont pitch on Thursday, he doesnt expect to miss any time. "I could go, yes," said Delabar. "But I think theyre going to be cautious with it." Wholesale Orioles Jerseys . The 24-year-old Pruneau played his CIS football with the Montreal Carabins. DAgostinis rebound goal at 11:49 of the third period lifted the Sabres to their fifth straight home win, a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. "Were never going for pretty," DAgostini said. Linus Omark found Steve Ott to the right of Devils goaltender Cory Schneider. Otts shot rebounded into the crease and DAgostini poked it into the net. "We kinda talked about getting inside on them a little more," DAgostini said. "Myself, Ive been skating good and getting shots but mostly from the outside. Getting inside and getting to the net is where you get most goals in this league." Matt Moulson also scored a power-play goal and Ryan Miller made 21 saves for the Sabres. Michael Ryder scored his 13th goal of the season for New Jersey, which has lost back-to-back games in regulation. Buffalos struggling power play broke out of its slump. They entered the game with just one goal in their past 22 power plays and had gone three games without converting with the man advantage. "It was a good feeling to get a couple on the power play tonight and it was just a matter of taking the puck to the net," defenceman Tyler Myers said. "Both goals we had a guy take the puck in and we had guys crashing and banging away. Thats what we have to do if we want to score." The Devils took two penalties in three minutes late in the second period. New Jersey forced a turnover and had two players alone on Miller during the first penalty, but Miller stopped Adam Henriques shot. "I want to be there to make a difference," Miller said. "If I had to come up with a few saves here and there, and thats one of them, I was happy to make it." The save injected some energy into the home crowd, as well as the Sabres. "The guys definitely feel the energy," Miller said. "Its important to hear that the crowds behind you and thats definitely one of those instances." Buffalo scored on the next opportunity. With 31 seconds left in the second period, Moulson shot a rebound past Schneider for his 14th goal of the season. "We need to keep doing that," Moulson said. "Get pucks to the net, get guys driving to the net and get those dirty goals." It was Buffalos first reegulation goal against New Jersey in more than 135 minutes of play going back to April 7, 2013.dddddddddddd The Sabres took a too many men penalty 6:03 into the third period and Myers was penalized two minutes for an illegal hit to the head of Dainius Zubrus less than a minute later. "I wondered why that wasnt a five-minute major but I didnt get an explanation for that," Devils coach Peter DeBoer said. New Jersey had a 5-on-3 advantage and tied the game at the 7:46 mark when Ryder shot a loose puck over Millers shoulder. The Devils have scored a power-play goal in consecutive games after going without one for four games. With 10:03 gone in the third, Zubrus shoved Myers into the Sabres goal post and was called for interference. "You cant retaliate," DeBoer said. "He knows that. I think its too easy a target to pin the loss on him. I think the loss is pinned on the fact we couldnt score 5-on-5." On the ensuing power play, DAgostini backhanded a rebound past Schneider for his first goal in 26 games, dating back to April 18. "Now Im at one," DAgostini said. "As long as youre getting the chances, sooner or later theyll start falling for you. Hopefully Im on the other side now." Ott and Omark assisted on the goal, Omarks first point with the team since being acquired from the Edmonton Oilers on Dec. 19. Buffalo scored multiple power-play goals for just the second time this season, dating back to Oct. 8 against Tampa Bay. The Sabres got the games first power play when Steve Bernier interfered with Tyler Ennis in front of the Devils net. Myers had the best chance of the power play, but Schneider made the save with his blocker. Eight minutes into the second period, Brian Flynn was one-on-one with Schneider off a pass from Omark, but the Devils goaltender kicked away his backhand shot. Miller has won his past six home games, allowing just eight goals. The teams combined for just 11 shots on goal in the first period, with seven going to the Devils.
