The Toronto Raptors have been scoring at a pace impressive even by their own standards. That offensive output will face a stiff challenge Tuesday night against the defensive-minded Portland Trail Blazers in a battle of two of the NBAs hottest teams. The Raptors ranked second in the league with 107.3 points per game through Dec. 17, but have reached another level of production in their last five, averaging 114.8 points. Kyle Lowry has led Torontos balanced offence, which has committed only 11.6 turnovers per game - the second-fewest in the league - and hasnt given it away more than 10 times in the past five. Lowry is averaging career highs in field-goal percentage (45.5 percent), assists (7.7) and scoring (20.5 ppg), including a 30-point, 11-assist effort in Sundays 116-102 victory over Denver. The Raptors bench also has been outstanding, scoring 40.1 points per game to rank among the leagues top five. Reserve Lou Williams led the way on Sunday with 31 points. When Lou gets it going you want to find him, Lowry said after Toronto improved to 7-0 when Williams scores 20 points. Our teams like that. Were unselfish. We want everyone to be successful. Including DeMar DeRozan, who has been sidelined since Nov. 28, nine players average at least 7.7 points. Even if Aldridge cant go, the Blazers long-distance shooting has been helping make up for his absence. Lovejoy had scored just five goals in his 170-game NHL career, and he had just one goal in 40 games this season before firing two slap shots past Ilya Bryzgalov 2:43 apart late in the first period. With perfect setups from Saku Koivu and Cam Fowler, Lovejoy tied the club record for the most goals scored by a defenceman in one period. "It has to be perfectly in my wheelhouse, and those guys were able to find it," Lovejoy said. "Its a very small sweet spot." After scoring the fastest two goals by a defenceman in franchise history, Lovejoy thought about the serendipity: His wife, Avery, and their new daughter, Lila, were at home watching for the first time since Lila was born on New Years Eve.
