The following are the differences between Breitling Super Mechanical Chronograph Series and Avenger Series:
Design Style
Super Mechanical Chronograph Series: Originated from the mechanical automatic chronograph flight watch launched for the Italian Air Force Tricolor Arrows Flight Demonstration Team in 1984, the design style is relatively tough and masculine, emphasizing the sense of power. There are raised bezel hour markers, raised side bezel screws and large-size crown shoulder guards with distinct corners. The bezel, crown and chronograph buttons are inlaid with ceramics, and matched with roller ball bracelets or rubber straps, showing an overall exquisite and tough style.
Avenger Series: Built for fighter pilots in 2001, it borrowed the classic "saddle nail" bezel design of the Chronomat mechanical chronograph series in the early days, and was integrated with the Colt Challenger series in 2019, with a distinct military style. The case and bezel adopt large-area brushed technology, and the corners and other details are polished. The slightly raised locking screws on the side of the bezel increase the toughness and grip friction. The chronograph buttons on both sides of the crown are rectangular, which is more modern and fashionable.
Size and material
Super Mechanical Chronograph Series: The diameter is usually 44 mm, and the thickness is about 14.45 - 14.55 mm. The materials include stainless steel, 18K red gold and titanium alloy.
Avenger Series: There are 42 mm large three-hand calendar models, 44 mm GMT models and chronograph models, and 46 mm Super Avenger B01 Chronograph Night Mission Edition. In terms of materials, in addition to the common stainless steel, a special edition of the Night Mission with a ceramic case is also launched. The classic grenade-shaped crown and the new square chronograph button are made of titanium alloy.
Movement and function
Super Mechanical Chronograph Series: Equipped with Breitling's self-made B01 movement, it has a column wheel + vertical clutch timing system, which can be accurate to 1/4 second, with a swing frequency of 28,800 times/hour, a power reserve of about 70 hours, and some models have dual time zone functions. The waterproof depth is generally 200 meters.
Avengers Series: All equipped with Breitling's self-made B01 movement, the three chronograph sub-dial positions are changed from the original 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions to 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. With 300 meters of water resistance, some GMT models can read Greenwich Mean Time or the second time zone time through the 24-hour rotating bezel, and the functions are more focused on adapting to harsh environments and professional purposes.
Dial Design
Super Mechanical Chronograph Series: The dial layout usually has a 30-minute chronograph dial, a 12-hour chronograph dial, and a small second dial at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, and the date display window is located below the small second dial. Some styles have a hollow design, black as the main color with red gold hands and three-dimensional stick-shaped hour markers, and the overall color contrast is clear.
Avengers Series: The three small dials of the chronograph are decorated with record patterns, which form a sharp contrast with the dial surface. The 30-minute chronograph dial scale at 3 o'clock is decorated with some red elements, which echoes the red at the end of the second hand. The 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock is integrated into the date display window. The Night Mission watch uses digital hour markers for easier reading.
